This is not a website. Neither is this a social network. Amazing tools and communitites already exist. PopIN (www.popin.my) is about adding signals to the conversations taking place on these networks.
We are more likely to read something that was liked, favourited or retweeted by someone we know. The value of standalone websites that bank on capturing your dwindling attention span is diminishing fast. This is especially true when reaching out to the youth.
Looking at these shifts, our team at Popfolio decided to test the viability of building a news network for Malaysian youth without having to operate, much less build, yet another website and news engine. Innovative businesses find ways to reduce development cost so new ideas can compete based primarily on the value they deliver to the community.
PopIN leverages existing social networks to create a P2P newswire of sorts. People share their thoughts and ideas through the social stream on sites like Facebook and Twitter. The goal is to tap into this stream to deliver informational content and to add value to online conversations.
